Plan for the future – what is Imagine 2050?
One of our biggest responsibilities is to create a regional development guide every 10 years. Our latest guide – Imagine 2050 – envisions the future we collectively want for this region in 30 years. It’s informed by the values and desired outcomes spelled out in the current comprehensive plans of the 7 counties and 181 cities and townships in the Twin Cities metro region.
Imagine 2050 includes policies for how we will plan for and interact with land, transportation, water, housing, and parks and trails. Local governments will use it to guide a wide range of plans and actions for shared infrastructure like roads, sewers, regional parks, housing, water supply, and more.
We want to learn more from the people we serve. Share your thoughts as a community leader – and help guide the future of the Twin Cities region.

No one community can tackle these challenges alone. We partner with other agencies, community advocates, and people throughout the region to plan for a better future for our children, grandchildren, and future generations. Your feedback helps us to better understand the needs of the region, and how well we’re planning for them. Follow the prompts to share your thoughts and ideas.
The Met Council – in partnership with business, civic, and other leaders – developed the vision, core values, and regional goals for Imagine 2050. A well-defined vision, accompanied by explicit values and goals, provides direction and energy toward our desired future. Please take time to review the foundational messages and aspirations we hope will help us become a more prosperous, equitable, and resilient region with more opportunities for all to live, work, play, and thrive.
